Sunday Summary.

Ahhhh. Serenity Now. This is how I FINALLY feel today after a combo Hangover/Tired/Jet-Lagged day from hell yesterday. I'm exaggerating a little bit, I mean, waking up at 7am and flying all day and finally getting home at 10pm is no picnic, but I wasn't HORRIBLY hungover. I was just so hyper-aware of how yukky I felt, and honestly, I ate junk food for all three meals yesterday. I almost felt like I HAD TO. And there was no real guilty pleasure in it at all. In fact, I was just annoyed as heck that drinking the night prior was affecting a big portion of the entire next day. NOT how I roll.

So- I mentioned that I'd be doing "Saturday Summary" posts, but since I missed that yesterday while I was feeling like this:

I am here today, finally feeling like myself again, and ready to belt out a pretty good summary of this past week's activity:

The GOOD:

  • For being out of town 6 days of the week, I completed 4 workouts. CERTAINLY not an "A" game by any means, but better.
  • For being out of town 6 days of the week, I stayed on target with my "diet"--I'm going to say if an "A" is perfect, meaning only one cheat day and the other 6 days were spot-on, then this week was a B-. I did great - had one cheat meal on Thursday night, but then Friday night, I had sushi and drinks while entertaining and then y'all know I had junk food hell yesterday. So instead of one cheat day, it really was more like 2 cheat days. Not acceptable.
  • I had to be out entertaining every night this week, so the workouts had to be done in the early morning. I'm pleased that even when an unexpected meeting came up and I only had 30 minutes, I still got my sweat on and squeezed SOMETHING in.

The BAD:

  • I did really good sticking to my "diet"- while in the airports, even when being taken out for dinner the first night to an amazing HUGE decadent buffet. But...by not planning and being very specific that DAY X is my cheat day, I only did a "little" cheating (I had chips with the Mexican meal and a margarita....that's not a LOT of cheating), and then didn't feel bad about having sushi the following night and a couple extra cocktails....then that led into hangover hell. Mentally I felt 200x worse than I did physically, but still.
  • This week was typical of a travel week of "winging it" with my workouts. Even though I packed everything, I did NOT balance out all body parts and my workouts are more cardio than weights. THIS is the kind of stuff I cannot do. When I can't use the hotel gym, I have to plan my in-room workouts to include BOTH cardio and weights....!!!!

I chose this picture because this is what is on my mind today. I've been away from running for a bit and missing it. I took the last two weeks of the year and worked out at home. This week, because the hotel gym was $25 a day, and I didn't feel ok about running outside in the Vegas Ghetto, I did inside workouts. I'm ready to run this week. And I wanted a picture that would show someone running on a path- think about a runner on any path or trail.....are they constantly stopping and turning around and looking back, at a rock they might have tripped on, or a fork in the road, wondering if they should have taken THAT trail instead of this one? Nope....they are looking forward. They are running forward. This is DEEP THOUGHTS metaphor time people.

Learn from your mistakes (i.e. for me, I mean, I disappointed myself this week, not having an "A" week), and then mentally, drop them by the side of the road and MOVE ON. Shrug it off. Choose to learn, to be better, to GET better, and then PRESS ON.

I don't want to put my energy into focusing on what I did wrong last week. I choose to focus on making this week SING.

On a side note, here is the one baby vlog I shot while in Vegas after one of my workouts:

For all of you asking, I REALLY am glad that I bought the TRX. I've only used it like two times this week and I'm still getting used to all that it can do, but OMG. It is fantastic. Easy to pack, it can be shoved into this tiny little bag. It was EASY to use with the hotel closet door or the door to the room. I can tell you that this gadget is going to work my core and arms like nothing else....I haven't even begun to try 1% of the moves you can do on here, and I am pretty sure that in 2011 I will get my TRX certification.....so cool. I even had one of the hotel maids say she is going to order one, after she came in my room to clean while I was finishing my workout. I showed her some moves and she tried it and was like HOLY HECK!! I can't wait to do these:

OMG check out Brandon Vera using TRX for his training. Can you tell why I love this stuff- it's killer for everyone. And also- I'm finally getting to go check out the Crossfit gym that Pete opened up this week.....yaya! I'm gonna tear some s**t UP people!! Are you IN????

I'M BACK!

Happy New Year 2011!!! BOOYA!

Happy New Year Kittens!!

Are you hungover, or hanging TOUGH? I'm not hungover in the least bit, in fact I didn't drink at all last night. I had some red wine on Thursday night and that was PLENTY. Anyway, I hope y'all had fun whatever you did last night. Personally, I'm not a big party person for NYE, I'd rather hang out with my family and friends kind of low-key, instead of running around, fighting drunk crowds and watching couples get in fights. NOT good times in my book.

So....I'm going to be implementing a new little weekly tradition here- Saturday posts will be "Saturday Summary" posts, where I look back on my week and evaluate how I did and what I want to do better in the next week.

So....for this first Saturday of my 30-Day "No Loose Ends Challenge"how am I feeling?

A little something like THAT. I am SO on fire, I am feeling SO GREAT, I can TOTALLY SEE RESULTS (my mom stopped by yesterday so I could show her some circuit moves for HER workouts and she said about three or four times she could see I was losing weight! AMEN!) and I LOVE WHAT I'M DOING.

2010 was my warm-up year after being kind of "on the bench" in 2009 for myriad reasons. 2011, I'm simply.....OUT OF THE GATE and UNSTOPPABLE. This 30-day Challenge is just the right thing- the right thing for me to get in the habit of recording/tracking everything (which I believe is KEY KEY KEY to short term and long term success....something I haven't done in AGES) and to get in the habit of consistent and varied training. When you track everything and evaluate your actions, your diet and your results, you SEE WHAT YOU MISSED (if you did) and you see WHAT WORKS and what you need to tweak.

What are my main goals?

  1. Consistency. I will train 5x a week minimum, ideally 6x week.
  2. Variety. I will not just do my favorite workouts. I will hit all areas of the body and balance out isolation training with circuits, balance high intensity cardio with lower intensity cardio, balance out everything with Yoga at least ONCE per week.
  3. "Diet". I will be faithful to my diet that fuels my body and allows for fat loss and then building solid muscle.
  4. Go Big or Go Home. I'm not in this to just play around. I'm not in this to just look "ok" for my age. I'm in this to play tough and win big. I know what I WANT and I'm doing this FOR ME, not anyone else.
  5. Fear is my friend. Why? Because I can now recognize it when it enters into my mind, and that is precisely when I stop being a wimp and start OWNING IT.

I know I've said this a LOT the last quarter of 2010, but for the first time in YEARS, I truly have no doubt about the future. I have no doubts anymore about getting in the best shape of my entire life this year and then....continuing to only get better.

So....what will 2011 look like?

A lot more running. I am SO PROUD OF MYSELF for listening to Amy and starting it and DOING IT. I love running. And then....

Crazy Plyometrics and madness that usually will be found doing Crossfit (can't WAIT to start):

A whole lot more of Tony Horton and P90X, Insanity and RevAbs:

Yummy.

Of course, I'll be doing isolation training in the gym, that goes without saying. Hoping to bring y'all some JAY WORKOUTS from Ft. Lauderdale!!! Watch out for that madness. And then.....

A lot more Yoga. And Hot Yoga weekly when at all possible. Amen. I LOVE IT.

So- QUESTION OF THE DAY: What does YOUR New Year 2011 have in store? What are your top 3 fitness goals??
