Say NO to Zero.

Have you seen the movie Tomb Raider? Any of them? I loved it. I'm always in to action flicks and especially when the chicks are just as badass as the guys. Remember when Angelina looked like this?

and yet now, we usually see her like this:

**Please note, before I go any further, this post is NOT to poke fun of or comment on the dietary choices and philosophies of any celebrity. This is not intended to be mean in any manner but only to illustrate a trend in the media that can affect many women.**

As I have come to terms with my unhealthy relationship with food and diet (in the past), I've also discovered some of the sources or influences that I have allowed to alter my thought patterns. The whole point of taking time to "figure yourself out" is to determine the root causes of WHY you did this or that. For me, I wanted to find out why I'd become SOOOO overwhelmingly critical of myself and SOOO full of self-loathing and discouragement for my ability to get uber-skinny. The media coverage of celebrity women and how outrageously skinny many of them are- can often seep into our minds and pervade our thought processes.

How many times do we hear about this celebrity or that celebrity being a size zero? Back when the movie Pretty Woman first came out, Julia Roberts' character said she was a size 8-- if that movie was made today, it would of course be a zero. I can't tell you how many times I've read that Jennifer Aniston or Angelina or Eva Longoria were a size zero or even a size -2. Yes,  A NEGATIVE 2.

I had someone write to me recently, after they heard me say in my vlogs that I'm gonna be happy when I'm back in my size 6 clothes. They asked, "Don't you want to aim for a size 2 or a size 0?" --- Honestly, a couple years ago I probably would have been aiming for that.

I saw this today on Pinterest:

This beautiful woman -who knows what size she is? Who cares? She's curvy and gorgeous. A couple years ago I would have thought she was fat. My mind was believing things like a Size Zero was HOT. Are women supposed to freaking DISAPPEAR now?

UPDATE: As I've seen a couple comments here from women that are a size zero- I feel that I want to clarify.....those women that ARE a size zero and are not anorexic or horribly undersized--this post is NOT to say that's wrong! I THINK most people know that I'm referring to someone like me--- who has a body type that just will never be less than a 6 I think, my bones are just not made that way--- so for me to try to reach size 0 is RIDICULOUS because I'm just not capable of it, and I shouldn't compare MY body to someone who is just smaller overall. So-- I hope I've made it clear, if you are small and size 0, that is not bad, unless it's unhealthy and unrealstic for you. **

I have come to accept my Kim-Kardashian-ish body type. When I was younger, I YEARNED to have a body type like Jen Garner. Both women are flipping gorgeous. But I will NEVER EVER EVER have a physique like Jen Garner.

YOU GO GIRL. #SeriousGirlCrushGoingOn

Also, wasn't Alias the best show on the planet?? I digress.

So- my answer to that person's question was NO. I have no internal desire to be a size zero. I am not designed that way, and I am (finally) fine with it. I OWN my curvaliciousness. My fitness goals are related to losing the weight/fat that I need to get to a healthy/slim weight for me. I love muscle. The pictures I post on my blog are those that I admire and aspire to-- but for my skin, my body. I am weighing myself now- but really- only as a measure of progress. I truly don't care what the # on the scale says, it is merely a guide right now as I'm losing fat/weight. My real judge of when I've "reached the goal" is The Naked Test. That's to be done by ME, naked in my house.

This is Buff, and this is beautiful. She is very lean, but I dont look at this and think that this girl eats lettuce and 3 berries every day. She works hard and it shows. I see some young girls on Tumblr literally aspiring to be skin and bones and it saddens me. Being in a bad mindset about our bodies and what we SHOULD look like is awful. I'm so glad I'm coming out of it, and I hope that I always promote here the GOOD part of fitness. Let's be strong. Let's be healthy in a good way. Let's enjoy life along the way.

Embrace- everyone, let's embrace. Now sing...

QUESTION OF THE DAY: Do you take all the media coverage of celebrities in size 0 or less seriously? Does it affect how you feel about YOU? Guys--- what do YOU think of uber-SKINNY (not buff) women?
