How To MAKE DO.

OMG. Zuzana is becoming my go-to A** Kicker Girlfriend. I'm sharing this screen shot because THIS was the move that forced me to MAKE DO. Let me explain.
If you recall in my blathering vlogs from this week, I forgot to pack my resistance bands and although I did pack my TRX, I really have to get back in and train with the TRX certified trainer back in Chicago because I'm not as familiar with all the moves you can do on that system. It's KILLER but you don't want to wing it and waste your time. So-- in the near future, after I've become more familiar with that, I can make up some more killer circuits. This week, I was having to really get my creative juices flowing in the hotel room.
Today, I WAS SO NOT FEELING THE MOJO to do a workout at night. I was NOT FEELING IT KIDS. Some of you think I am crazy motivated all the time. Not so. But---I recognized that the Bad Kelly was trying to push Good Motivated Kelly DOWN and once I saw that, I put that biotch back in her place. I thought about my favorite jeans and about my orange bikini and....I got my workout clothes on. Pretty much once I get my workout clothes on, IT'S ON. So, I looked up a Zuzana workout on BodyRock.TV. I found this one and was all ready to GO:
I previewed the moves, wrote them down and then started with a warmup. I did 20 reps of each move and then, got to the above pictured wall squat and when I started lifting my left leg GREAT BALLS OF FIRE I felt like a knife went through my outer thigh. NO IDEA what I did but I had to get up and do all kinds of weird stretches in my room to rid the pain. Then I was pissed. I was pissed because I knew it would be foolish to do the same moves again (and risk an injury like my shoulder one that ruined me for almost 6 weeks earlier this year) and hurt my leg, but I wanted to not have a half-a**ed workout. So- I MADE DO.
I thought about what I could do with NO EQUIPMENT that wouldn't push it with my shoulder or push it with my leg, so I randomly added the following:
- Jog in place for 1 minute
- Kneeling "Pizza Cutter" kicks a la Cathe's Butts N. Guts
- Kneeling Rear Straight Kicks (you can see some of this in the video montage from this workout below:
- What is the move when you are on all fours and you like RUN with your legs, while your hands are in pushup position? The name escapes me.
- Standing straight leg swings, 20 each leg.
- 100 Walking Lunges
- Close Legged Squats
- Wide Legged Squats
- Plie Squats
- Plyo Plie Jumps (16)
- Taebo straight legged side raise
- Taebo front kick
- Taebo Rear Kicks
- Taebo Style Front Machine Gun Kicks
- Roundhouse kicks
- Jog in place 1 minute.
In total, after doing ONE set of the devil I mean Zuzana's workout above followed by 20 reps of each move here, I had burned 250 calories in about 38 minutes. Not bad. And even better because at about 110 calories or so, after doing Zuzana's workout and only getting through the one circuit, I had "an excuse" to stop.
NO WAY.
Funny, here is another post today from Bret Contreras on the same topic~ you can do a killer circuit workout with NO equipment and no gym. NO EXCUSES:
CLICK HERE TO READ HIS POST ON HIS FAVORITE NO EQUIPMENT WORKOUT AT HOME.
And CLICK HERE to read Fit Lizzy's blog post titled "Fit Lizzio's Weight Loss Tips"-- wish I'd had this sensibility in my head a couple years ago!! WERD UP.
Here is proof of my madness:
Also- here is a random observation. Where is everyone this week? My blogworld has had tumbleweeds flying through it. I mean, I'm not that kind of blogger that like uses SEO tricks to get traffic and worries about how many people are reading me, I've NEVER been that kind of blogger BUT I do certainly notice when it seems like the world took a vacation. Did I miss something?
Anyway, I hope y'all are having a great week. I'm very proud of myself this week for MAKING DO, I head home tomorrow morning and am very psyched to see my new kettlebells and my new UGIFit ball thing. COOLNESS. ;-)
QUESTION OF THE DAY: Do you watch TV "live" or do you DVR everything?

The move you're thinking of is...drum roll... mountain climbers. There are some fun variations, too. Cross-body, spiderman, rock climbers, mountain lunges. I love them.
I'm so behind on your blogs. My sister has cancer, it's far worse than we thought, she's in hospice now...I haven't been keeping up with much of anything. But I'm glad I stopped by and could answer the brain freeze question of the day.:)
OH, and a P.S... I love Zuzanna. I love the insane, crazy, challenging amazingly fun quickie workouts she develops. I also love her idea for filling sandbags with bags of dry race that are already a certain weight. Of course, rice takes up more space than sand does so your sandbag can't get as heavy, but it still is an idea that rocks. You can take out a pound or two at a time. I want to get a home dip stand like she has. If you search her site, not long ago she told a bit about her story of being caught up as a young girl in the porn scene and how she got out. She's inspiring -- true grit.
I wish my absence was something wonderful like vacation. Instead it is too much overwhelming stuff. Even now, I should be writing a paper for my online university work.
Glynis, OMG I am so so so sorry. I'm going to be praying for your family starting right now. (((hugs))) Thinking of you. (and wow I didn't know that about Zuzana's past. That is awesome.)
mountain climbers! :)
I think the world is on spring break...
Test comment.
I am sooo behind on all things blog! I came out this morning to get a KO fix and whoa... i am not sure I can handle this quiet Kelly in the hotel rooms. LOL. I almost didn't recognize you.
I DVR everything - to the point I will pause live tv just so I can fast forward ;)
There is no way you can read the WSJ in 15 minutes. It takes you 11 minutes to explain a new Tae Bo move....
LOLOLOLOL!!!!!!!!!!!
Hi Kelly! You are mentioning “the Bad Kelly” in this post. Just in case you don’t know (I’m pretty new to your blog, so I don’t know much about what you do or don’t know) and just in case you’re interested (again, I cannot know whether you are or not), Zuzana, Freddie, and the people in their BodyRock community call the voice (corresponding to your “Bad Kelly”) “Brutus”. And they use the word quite often. So if you come across some talking about “Brutus” on Zuzana’s website, just substitute “the Bad Kelly” for “Brutus” and it will make sense.
P.S. Is there a picture somewhere here of you wearing the orange bikini?
LOL you had me laughing at the end of the vlog. You're so funny!
As for TV we DVR everything and just like Amy we pause live so we can FF.
Now when it comes to blogging, I have been busy with client work this week and working on blog posts, etc. so I haven't been hitting up the blogs in my reader as much as usual. Plus this is my last week of personal training sessions so I have been going every day. Have to get my 10 in by Monday so he's been kicking my butt every day with boxing, upper body, lower body, core, you name we have been doing it. So. exhausted.
I think everyone is busy, that's what I like to believe at least! Everyone I've talked to this week is getting beat down with work, school, etc, so let's hope this passes soon! I was supposed to go out tonight but couch, dog, Lifetime is my agenda for the evening and I'm quite ok with that.
Happy Friday!
Tiff- I love that!! LOL Couch, Dog, Lifetime! haha My couch is my therapy on weeks like this. Big time. Plus just sleeping in my own bed!! ;-) XOXO
Angie! Long live the DVR. I have NO idea when my shows are on, I watch everything through DVR. Is this a new trainer you are using? Going to keep on using or no?
Martin, I'm so new to Zuzana and Freddie, you are giving me all these great insights to their stories!! I'm going to tune in regularly now to the blog and videos because I really like her....and the workouts and her philosophy in life it seems! Martin I have to ask- where do you live?
I live next door to Zuzana and Freddie. Well, I’m not exactly their neighbor. I live about 100 miles away from them. In the Czech Republic, Central Europe.
Although there are some things concerning Zuzana (and Freddie) I don’t understand, I think it’s worth listening to and reading what they have to tell and write. (Of course, you don’t need to know my opinion – you’ll form your own.)
Martin, you might laugh, but I could tell by the way you phrase your sentences that you didn't live in America. Isn't that funny? ;-) I'm tuning into Freddie and Zuzana more and more....I'm sure glad they do what they do. ;-)
Unfortunately, it’s not funny to me and I certainly don’t laugh at it :-/ It’s bad news for me, but it’s important news at the same time, so thank you for it! That’s terrible, I even used “neighbor” instead of “neighbour” to sound more American :-) If I can ask a favor of you (and of anybody who is reading this and whose mother tongue is English and would be so nice) – what’s wrong with my English?
Prepositions? Zero/indefinite/definite articles? Word order? Tenses? Use of words – using words that don’t fit into the given context? Using too many unnecessary words? Is my language too formal? Do I get all the these things wrong? And/Or something else?
Of course, this is your blog, not mine, and I don’t ask you for a detailed evaluation/analysis of my English. Any observation would be great for me.
“all the these” is a misprint, not a mistake :-)
Martin, I think you are being WAY too sensitive here. I wasn't saying that your English or your grammar was bad!!! I have a LOT of readers from other countries and I simply can tell when someone is not from America- maybe it's the lack of American slang but my goodness, I wasn't insulting you! It was more of a compliment than anything else. There is nothing WRONG or BAD with the way you talk or type, believe me. I would never insult anyone in that manner.
Thanks for your reply Kelly!
Just to make myself clear - my reaction wasn’t about me being too sensitive or about me taking offence. Not in the least. And I wasn’t fishing for compliments either. The ability to communicate in English is important to me and it’s good to know what areas in English aren’t exactly my forte. So I’m glad that you wrote that comment yesterday and I’m glad that you’re mentioning the lack of American slang. If anybody else feels like adding anything else to the list of my not-exactly-fortes in English (or anywhere else), please do so without any hesitation.
It’s a bit problematic sometimes to communicate with somebody when one neither knows nor sees nor hears the other person, isn’t? Sometimes it’s hard to tell whether the other person is kidding, or being serious, or taking offence, or whatever.
Anyway, have a nice new week Kittens ;-)
I'm so glad you aren't upset Martin, as that was never my intention! ;-)
