Focused.

When you want to hit something, you focus on your target. You don't swing blindly, do you? This is how you have to view your fitness goals--- as a target. You are either on the path that moves you toward that target, or you are on the wrong path, or perhaps you are just wandering around in the forest.

Get Focused. I know I am.

Everything that I was missing in the past, things that were a part of my fitness journey for a while, those things are back. I've got my calendar on the wall in my office and after every workout, I record what I did, I rate it anywhere from 3-5 stars and then I record my calories burned. This way, I can always see a pattern of crushing it or FAILING. If I see a bunch of "OFF" days, I know it's time to get back on the right path.

Simple things, simple habits make a HUGE difference.

Today's workout for me was Cathe's Butts N Guts, a favorite of mine. Here is a simple little addition to your healthy habits, especially if you workout from a home gym like I do most of the time. Have you ever found yourself quitting early? Like, you think "I don't need to stretch", or your legs are burning and you stop before you finish the last 3 reps? I've certainly done that in the past and guess what? That's like doing a DRIVE BY WORKOUT. If you had a personal trainer, they'd be yelling at you to PUSH IT and DON'T STOP. Do what you have to do, imagine that someone is there yelling at you to PUSH IT. Imagine someone you detest is watching you and they are predicting you will quit. Then you just SHOW THEM A THING OR TWO.

SHOW UP AND DO THE WORK. ALL OF IT.

I did the entire 50 minutes of Butts N Guts. I did not do Core today - and that is my QUESTION OF THE DAY: How often do you "train" core? once a week? twice? every day? Just curious.

This is one of my favorite core moves, the Flutter Kick:

OMG! This can be so killer for your abs. What is your favorite way to work your core?

Also! Bonus! As you know, on Tuesday nights, I work with General Mills as a panelist for the Multi-Grain Cheerios Twitter parties with NBC's The Biggest Loser (#client)! We start gabbing on Twitter at 8pm CST- so join in by following the hashtags #MGCheerios and #BL11 (#client). Tonight, I am able to share a pretty cool fitness prize provided by Multi-Grain Cheerios:

YUM and coolness for taking your MultiGrain Cheerios snack to the gym! BOOYA! Want to enter to win? Simply leave a comment telling me what you usually eat for a pre or post-workout snacky!! And in the mean time, check out the MultiGrain Cheerios Site for all kinds of cool tips, recipes and promotions.

I prep all day if I know I am running- munch on dry cereal and have plenty of water in me to be hydrated
I usually have a yogurt with cereal before and a bowl of cereal after I get back if I need to refuel

Totally interested in the pull up bar...it's the one that attaches to a door frame right?
All the ones I have seen are too expensive :(
Let me know please

Do you do just plain yogurt? ;-) Or Greek?

Hi Kelly, to answer your question on core exercise, i used to do core a lot, 2 to 3 times per week 30 mins now i realized that i don't need to work my abs so often and instead do it once per week. I also do pilates which incorporates some of the best core moves and i feel like now i have way more strength in my core than i did before. Again, less is more!! Good luck!! :)

Oh gosh, I totally didn't want to weigh myself last week. It had been a long time but I want to get focused. I actually weighed 10 more pounds than I thought so I have a lot of work to do. But I kept nodding my head, it's just like looking (or not looking) at the bank account LOL

As for core, I usually do it a few times a week. I have a lot of home workout options and sometimes that makes it difficult to chose what to do. You should see my Amazon wish list (Turbo Fire, Chalean Extreme, Insanity, Hip Hop Abs and the list goes on).

As for what I eat pre/post workout, I always have trouble deciding what to have. I prefer to eat as light as possible (slice of toast with peanut butter and banana). That's what it is most of the time.

“I can sit and moan and complain about it, or I can just accept it and deal with it.”
A great observation!

The Flutter Kicks are certainly one of my favorite abs exercises.

And now something you haven’t asked us to comment on, something you’ve probably heard many times, something you probably don’t like hearing.
It’s better to be pale and healthy than to be tanned/brown/bronze and...

LOVE flutter kicks. It's funny, I used to do them a lot and it burned all right, but WHOA, when I started flexing my feet, going slower and going lower it was like OMG I can't BREATHE! Love it. I like the P90 ab ripper X exercises - they make my cry. In a good way!

Martin~ I know, I've heard this about tanning all my life....on the other hand, I've been going tanning for over 20 years, I always have my dermatologist check my skin all over and I've never had an issue. In fact, at age 42, I actually feel better about my skin now than when I was younger! ;-) And I love Flutter Kicks in a big way!!
Angie, isn't it amazing about the scale? It's always more than we think. Oddly enough, when I finally got that scale out, I was pretty much exactly where I had guessed I was-not that this was GREAT, mind you. And my Amazon wish list grows exponentially every week LOL!!
Kelly- I don't think I've ever done flutter kicks with flexing my feet. I'm trying this today.

P.S. My post-workout meal is usually 4 oz of lean protein, 1 cup of green veggies, and 6 fish oil capsules!

April 20, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterTenecia

Tenecia- just curious, any reason why you take your fish oil post workout instead of breakfast or later in the evening?

The butt checker cracked me up! ;-0 I'm sure it goes under and not not on top....hehehe
And of course you will lose that 2lbs...it's most likely just water you are holding from extra carbs ie; wine, and whatever else it was you indulged in...it'll probably be gone by tomorrow. cheers hon!

RAE RAE!!!!! How are you? How's the farming going? ;-) Miss you!!

April 21, 2011 | Registered CommenterKelly Olexa

It's going really well...got lots of stuff planted and sprouting...can't wait to have a full meal straight off the property!

April 21, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterRaechelle

That sounds HEAVENLY Rae Rae!! ;-) So happy for you!

I actually take fish oil twice a day while prepping for a figure competition....once after my morning cardio and the second time after I complete my lunch time workout. If I'm not prepping for a show, I take them in the morning post-cardio.
