Happy Hump Day!

Hey Kids!! Has your Hump Day been a kick butt one?? ;-) Has mine? um, yes. Totally. My workout today was Cathe HIIT 30/30 followed by Cathe Butts N Guts, a personal favorite. I burned 705 calories for a WOOT!!!! Amen.

And on that note, to answer your question Chelle, the intermittent fasting (Eat Stop Eat) has NO effect on my ability to do workouts. At all. I've done a killer workout, like today's workout which was an hour and a half, on a total empty stomach/fasting day, and I'm fine. I'm not weak throughout the workout and I'm not dying of hunger later in the day. I seriously can't believe how much easier it is to get through a fasted day than I would have imagined. Don't get me wrong, I do have many times where my stomach gets a twang and I think that I'd sure like - whatever- but that's the key- I THINK I want something.  You just have to say to yourself, this is just for today, it is NO big deal, so stick with it. It is much more of a mind thing to conquer and when you do- at least for me, I find that the following days I am far MORE aware of true hunger, and I only want to eat when I'm really physically hungry. And then when I do, I'm filling up faster than ever before. So overall, I'm so pleased. This is an amazing fit for me and I see myself incorporating this technique or way-of-eating year-round.

**PLEASE do yourself a favor and read this post from Julie Go Lean. CLICK HERE. She nails it right on the head. Losing weight isn't easy and guess what?? It doesn't stop when you get there, it is a lifelong effort. Commit to it!**

Anyway, I saw this picture somewhere today (it really scares me sometimes how awful my short term memory is. My long-term memory is epic and I remember EVERYTHING, small details you'd never think anyone paid attention to, but ask me what I did this morning and I'll tilt my head and really have to think about it....queer, I know.) and it blows my mind. Not sure why I'm even surprised, but seriously- why why WHY do advertisers still insist on photo-shopping EVERYONE so that look completely inhuman?? I mean, really, the message we are sending here is frightening in that some of the people they photo-shop i.e. Faith Hill, Britney Spears, Kelly Ripa, Madonna, Gwenyth Paltrow, etc. - um hello?? They are pretty hawt naturally! Take a peek at what a normal Britney looks like on the right, and her photo-shop fantasy-I-am-a-Barbie-doll look is on the left. #FAIL on Candies.

And we wonder why 8 year old girls are starting to go on diets. Sad thing is, girls, you go on a diet and look perfect to try to attract the boys, and then they'll still go all Tiger Woods/Hugh Grant/Prince Charles/Jesse Whatever/Halle's Ex/Mutt Lange on you. OOPS. Did I sound a little negative there? Sorry. ;-) I'm just calling a lamea** a lamea**.

Glad the fasting thing is working out for you girl.
I'm happy with the way I eat...which is pretty much all day long...LOL...but it seems to work for me. And yes, being fit has to be a lifelong choice. I get so annoyed by clients that ask for a diet. Some clietns understand it's about lifelong changes-and they will make changes that stay with them...others don't get it and probably never will-just go on another diet-lose some weight-go off the diet and gain it all back. I really feel for those people-but when the info is out there that short term "diets" don't work; and I give them as much info as possible without coming over and cooking their meals for them...it's really up to them.
Sorry so long winded. ;-0

Well i've just listened to Brad Pilon's video on ESE, very interesting. I think i'm gonna see how you go over the next few weeks girl and then might give it a shot myself. For me, its the snacking here and there that really adds up the extra calories rather than 'unhealthy food choices'. And i know that the 'snacking' isnt cos i am really hungry!... 705 cals on a fasting day, WOOT to you girl!

Rae Rae- I totally get it. Before discovering ESE I really had come to the point where I said, I'm going to eat healthy and less- but in a way that I can live and enjoy life, and if that means I will always be 5lbs away from where I'd like to be, so be it. I can't eat grass soup and water for the rest of my life.
Chelle: stay tuned!

Go Kelly,
It brings me joy to hear how well this is going for you. Like I said before, I have been using IF for 2 years and can not imagine ever going back to eating all day long.

I love how the results are almost immediate. I also saw changes in less than 2 weeks. Like I said before, I have been at it for 2 years so I do have the experience of this program working long term.

I teach 6 heavy duty fitness classes a week, so I can also honestly say it has no effect on my energy and ability to train. AND I'm a non-protein powder eating vegatarian.

So in a nutshell: I fast, I eat minimal protein, I skip meals, I train on an empty stomach and I'm 45. I should not be buff, but alas, I am in great shape and have muscles and low bodyfat.
I don't want to come off as conceited, I just want people to know, there is another way.

Have a good one,
Jennifer

I'm starting my second fast for the week today, and I am excited! Who gets excited about fasting???? Well, I tell you what, it felt empowering to me that I went 24 hours without food. I'm a food addict so this is great for me. Maybe I'm jumping the gun too soon, we'll see? I do know this, my stomach has been soo flat, and if that's not an incentive, I don't know what is? Good luck to us all!

Did you see Jessica Simpson's cover for Marie Claire with no make up and no retouching? She's beautiful and I like her attitude about it.

The whole airbrushing/retouching thing has gotten ridiculous. No one will even recognize what real people are supposed to loo like anymore. I even read something about baby photos being retouched by a magazine in the UK. When will this end?

amazed, as always, at your hefty caloric burn. Sheesh I need to up my workouts they have been pitiful lately AND you make me not feel bad about the times that I amp myself up on caffeine and do major calorie burns...thought they were too epic but guess i shouldnt be ashamed ;)

and thanks for the link to julie's post, i had never seen her blog before and I liked it!!

Have a great rest of your day :)

xo

Kristina- NEVER BE ASHAMED!! Especially of 1) caffeine and 2) epic calorie burns LOL!!

Glynis- it really is scary. Bad enough we have toothpick models walking the runway with their knobby knees and collarbones sticking out, then we have normal weight people airbrushed to look like Barbie dolls. Total FAIL.

Like the sound of the whole fasting theory...like you, I find I attend a couple of work functions a week and if I could look at my caloric intake on a weekly basis rather than daily, then the day or two of fasting would even out the days when I eat a little more (healthiest options available, of course)
Also wanted to say Thanks for the link to Wendy, I HATE clothes shopping and don't have much of a clue on putting together a wardrobe for work, I contacted her, and she will ship to Australia, so I'm sooo excited!

Sandra~ looking at each WEEK as a whole, from a workout perspective and a diet perspective makes it easier to manage. I try to balance everything within the week. And the fasting thing- is just pretty darn easy!
SO glad you connected with Wendy. She rocks, doesn't she?

April 16, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterKelly Olexa

Julie- I agree with you totally. I am a "food addict" too, someone that tends to like to eat, just because I love food, but also because I've been restricting virtually everything in the name of trying to lose weight. Silly-ness.

April 17, 2010 | Registered CommenterKelly Olexa

Jennifer- you were right!! I had a whole day of comments that I did not post, for some reason we didn't see them, as I had a large amount of spammy/link references for my Ford page. Ai yi yi!! So sorry about the mixup!! ;-(
