Cardio Occurred.

Yup. Today was cardio day. I did Kettlebells- actually, I did THIS WORKOUT from Angie Miller. Here is a little preview:
Don't be fooled by the cool calm demeanor of this woman. This workout is TOUGH. Seriously. I'm using a 20lb Kettlebell and I'm ready to move up in weight, although there are a few moves you want a lighter Kettlebell.
Anyway, I'm making an announcement. This is really for MY accountability. I have to get back to doing my CARDIO early in the morning. I've been in a habit of waking up, having my breakfast, working for several hours (when I'm not traveling) then doing a late morning workout. It's fine but sometimes the day gets away from me and then I'm trying to squeeze in a workout in the evening WHICH BITES. I don't know why but my stomach always feels more full in the later part of the day, which prevents me from doing kicka** cardio type workouts like Insanity.
So, I have done it before. I will do it again. I'll keep you posted on how well I do. AFTER ALL I CAN DO ANYTHING I SET MY MIND TO.
It's all a mind game people. Our workout success, our diet success- it is all in our mind. We have to get used to conquering bad/weak/give it up thoughts and convincing ourselves to focus on the goal, NOT on temporary distractions or the temporary state of our being/body NOW.
What do you do when you find yourself not "feeling like" working out? How do YOU get yourself on track? I'm just talking to myself about my goals. Focusing on specific things that RIGHT NOW are enough to annoy me- for example, I think of my favorite pair of jeans and how there is no way in hell I would wear them out in public at this moment. THAT PISSES ME OFF. So, when I don't feel like working out, I think about putting on those jeans. And, um, yea, that pretty much does it for me.
EVERY DAY IS ONE STEP CLOSER. WHEN YOU GIVE UP, YOU ARE ANOTHER STEP BEHIND.
Cardio,
Kettlebells

Hi Kelly! I haven't written to you in a while, but I am still a nearly daily viewer. Like many of the other people who watch your vlogs, I love your spunky attitude towards everything. I LOVE your idea of doing a month calendar in your office. I am going to print one out to put up in my office...that is where I spend the most amount of time. (Maybe someplace I can see it but where others cannot?)
I also need to develop that voice in my head that says "what do you want more...a mini snickers or to fit into some of the clothes you could wear last year?" I am officially about 4 months into my second year as an attorney...and my body shows it. No, I'm not 20 lbs heavier...more like 5-8 depending on the week. But it is that 5-8 that makes me feel uncomfortable and slightly disgusted with myself. I am just a little bigger all over, although most of my weight is around my waist.
I have, however, started to take a break midday to go to the gym at lunch. The thing I struggle with is the long days. Often I leave work only to come home and work more. Dinner is my break...so I extend dinner as long as possible (and tend to keep munching). I need to replace that habit - maybe with a quick 20 minute workout and a little time to relax? Do you have any ideas? I am also trying to do my main workout in the morning or before noon.
Also, you mentioned that you use fitday. Are there any hints you have to making the daily logging with that a little less time consuming? I am going to start using that.
And finally... Have you always been pretty muscular? (I am envious of your arms/shoulders!) Or, did you develop that with all the weights you do? I hear people say that you can change your body. But, I am a bit of a skeptic, perhaps because I have never been committed enough to do so myself!
I lied. One more question...does your blog help keep you motivated? I am considering starting one. Thanks Kelly!! Have a great Friday :)
Elese, thanks so much for writing! ;-) To answer your questions- no, in no way have I always been muscular. Ages ago when I first saw Madonna get ripped, I wanted killer arms. So I will say I work my arms HARD. I have a lot of work to do on them, and as I lose fat this year, they will "pop" even more. But thank you for the compliment. Women are often scared to use weights to get bulky but - truly- we really aren't made to be able to get that big. Now- on one note, there are some women's clothes that I can't wear with the long sleeves because they are too tight on my arms. Annoying. But I wouldn't change it for anything.
My blog DOES keep me motivated in many ways- I know I have my peeps out there watching me and being motivated by me, so it's accountability BIG TIME and also makes me say, "I can't give up, what would my blogger peeps think?" Seriously!
I hear you on the long days. I work in sales, from a home office, and soon I'll be back on the road on a regular basis. My days are LONG. I get up at 7am (which is not that early for many) but regularly, I'm working until maybe 8-9pm. Don't get me wrong- I LOVE MY WORK, and I work late for two reasons, because I love it and want to excel- and because the best time for me to workout is mid-morning. As you know I'm working on shifting that possibly....but my schedule allows me the flexibility to do a good long workout in the morning and still get a ton of work done all week. For your schedule- you have to find what makes you the most productive and less stressed. I would suggest whatever you do that you don't workout right before bed. That has been shown to create sleep issues, and if you are like me, when you don't get enough sleep you are a wreck and unproductive.
Being a 'workaholic' in any way is a good thing, I think, as long as you make sure you UNPLUG- which is hard for people like us. Last night, I sat down around 8pm and just watched some Mad Men DVDs. That's hard for me to do, seriously, when I feel like doing some more research or whatever, but we have to find BALANCE.
That workout looks GREAT! I've never used those kettle things, but I heard they're awesome!
I'm pretty bad at getting myself motivated, especially in cold weather... eek! I haven't gymed since Tuesday - SO not like me!!
Aaaah I so agree!! I have to keep on telling myself those things. youre so good at it. thank you!! :)
ps. Im in sydney now Kelly!! Went for a run this morning and checked out the local gym - lifeguards and personal trainers here- YUMMY!! hehehe!! This should help motivate me towards the gym!! :)
I like a St. Augustine quote that says " Faith is to believe what you do not see, the reward of this faith is to see what you believe".
Ester- GREAT QUOTE!
