Yea. Bring it.
I'm traveling most of the week y'all. And today marks yet another new beginning for me. Remember I've been blathering on about recent tummy-aches haunting me again? How I wanted to get rid of any bad stuff I may have been incorporating again that was causing the bloat etc.? Well I went back and read a book that originally opened my eyes a couple years ago; Eat Right For Your Type. I am O-Positive and this book was what first made me realize how sensitive I am to dairy. I re-read it and it talks a LOT about how gluten can be really a bad fit for my blood type and how it can also cause weight gain and/or the inability to lose fat. I'm all about two big things here- FEELING BETTER (i.e. no more perpetual stomach pains)and anything to aid in my fat loss objective. I thought about it, and I was very much hesitant to say, "Kelly no more bagels. No more muffins....this is gluten free"....BUT then I was like, my gosh, how much of my life is affected by 1) being so uncomfortable when I have stomach aches and 2) having to work 5x harder for fat loss? Life is too short. I plan to try this and do it as close to 100% as I can, and see what happens to me over the next month. I anticipate that I may be very happy with what I see and how I feel.
Stay tuned.
Today- even while traveling, I was gluten free- I had a steak salad for lunch. I had a soy latte and then a steak and asparagus for dinner with a tomato/mozzarella salad (you can have goat cheese and mozzarella in limited amounts). NO TUMMY ACHES AT ALL. NONE. No bloating.
Awesome. Also - checked into my hotel and - worked out first thing! I did Cathe's Travel Fit- very good workout although I BROKE THE BAND!! Bollocks!!!! (@#(&^$%# But it IS indeed a very nice workout! I give it 4 stars. Not INSANELY kick butt, but very very good.
Vlog is uploading. Stay tuned!
QUESTION OF THE DAY: Do you know what blood type you are? Do you have food sensitivities? Have you cut out dairy or gluten?

Hey Kelly!
I've been doing Paleo for the last week. No dairy. And I feel freaking fantastic!!
I have pretty bad IBS and lots of stomach bloat. I may never eat dairy again!
Oh I should also add that I do eat eggs still though.
I've cut out grains too.
Hey girl, i am the queen of food intolerances. I've been eating gluten and dairy free for the past 28 days and am now feeling awesome. ( Have done so on and off for about 3 years now) Like you, gluten gives me severe bloating but dairy makes my skin break out and i also get quite congested and phlegmy. I also feel quite heavy get a bit of fluid retention when i consume them. That has all ceased now. Many people don't have the enzymes in their digestive system to break down the wheat and diary proteins properly which causes a lot of gas by-products to form thus the bloat. My chiropractor is a kinesiologist who confirmed my intolerances to gluten and dairy, ( i also have to stay away from soy too), he also believes that the human race was never supposed to consume those food groups. Wheat historically was sold for trade, not for food. And who ever came up with the idea of drinking out of a cows teat!? LOL. I'm sure you will notice a huge difference by cutting them out of your diet. After a week or two you'll find it really easy to eat gluten/dairy free, jus think outside the square, there are heaps of options out there girl. =)
I feel the same way you do! I HATE when people talked about their issues. I thought it was just an excuse. Boy did I get the slap in the face! I thought going vegetarian or vegan was just a fad of the moment. Now i'm seeing different.
I do have to say that ALL weekend i've felt great! Even my hubs notices. My mood was so much better. I don't do dairy or wheat and haven't for some time but still have issues. I'm pretty sure it's the whey powder EEK! Baby steps.....
It's also nice to not have to leave the room to pass gas ;)
I'm not sure of my blood type. I've even had a blood transfusion HA! I am having blood taken today so maybe i'll see if they can find out. I know it's expensive.
I am not sure what my blood type is (are we supposed to know this??) but I have noticed that when dairy is cut out of my diet the bloat goes with it. It's nice not to have to fight so hard to hold my belly in so I don't look 5 months pregnant.
Hope you have a great workout in your petite suite!! You go girl!
Shantel- I definitely have a dairy "intolerance" but I can have some dairy in small amounts. I think if this change of diet really works, I may get close to dairy free. At the moment, for example, this morning I had (room service) an omelette with spinach/mushrooms and mozzarella cheese. In the book he says Goat Cheese, Mozz and Feta are ok in moderation. I also had cream in my coffee this morning which doesn't seem to upset my tummy at all. However, I may try to find a soy solution- I don't drink coffee all day, but I do love my morning coffee.....so I'll have to see on that one.
Hey y'all I have actually no idea how I found out my blood type but I am sure glad I know what it is....for me, at this time, limited amounts of dairy- like the milk/cream in my morning coffee seem to be ok, but I am for sure going to work toward getting rid of that. I think occasionally having something with cheese might be ok. Last night I woke up in the middle of the night wanting sweets but I just got over it....It is FAR MORE IMPORTANT to me to feel good and then to look good- than to have a dang dinner roll!
April- try to find out your blood type; I bet you are O like me. Tawyna-my workout was awesome!!! WOOT! Chelle- it's so good to hear from others that have been there!! ;-)
Hey girl -- I'm a long lost reader coming back because -- I was crazy to stop reading!!
I am going through similar issues now - cutting out gluten and maybe even dairy. I was diagnosed with a gluten intolerance years ago, but slowly allowed it to creep back into my diet. The thing about me is, while I may have a gluten intolerance, I haven't been diagnosed a Celiac, and so, I push the limits of my tolerance and end up with frequent stomach aches. It's so confusing -- I feel so much better when I cut out gluten, yet I crave it like mad when it's in my diet! I have to remember how good I finally felt when I cut out gluten in the past. It's all about conquering the mind games for me. Good luck -- it can be done!
Oh Amy I hear you on the mind games!! I think perhaps gluten can be like sugar. You cut it out, and you don't have the cravings....add it back in, and you think about it all the time. This is day 2 for me and I feel sooo good to not have any tummy aches/bloating! Plus I feel that this too may very well help me with fat loss. That would be excellent. You can do it!!!
Hi Kelly,
I just moved back from Japan and started having trouble with wheat (we didn't eat much over there, so I never noticed it). The past couple weeks I went gluten free and it was amazing. I am trying to get back into it right now. I did this in college and lost a TON of weight (size 2! sweet!). I did manage to gain it back when I started to eat junk again. Anyway, I just bought the book you talked about bc I am O positive too! I look forward to reading it.
Keep us posted and thanks for sharing!
Meg-thanks so much for writing today! I think if more of us share our (good) experiences, we can all benefit. I'm really going to read the guidelines and really focus on what he says to avoid...cutting down on my dairy as much as I can. Today for lunch I had a mexican salad with guac (which I should avoid) and sour cream (dairy) Guess what; slight tummy ache;enough that I can't do my cardio jumping around tonight. ;-(
